“The World is Loaded… It’s lit to pop and nobody is gonna Stop!” Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction screamed that back in 1989. It seems like yesterday to me. Hell, that was 30+ years ago.
In the 70s and 80s, it felt like we were headed in the right direction. Global superpowers started a plan for nuclear disarmament. Women's rights took a massive leap forward. We ended wars and sent shuttles into space. The music was great. The fashion was extreme. We were hoping, and planning, and changing the world—without ever forgetting how to party.
We were kind of fucking cool.
It doesn't always feel that way anymore. Problems and differences stack up until it's hard to see past them to the other side. Times like this, I like to engage in a little well-intentioned nostalgia; to look back and remember the good parts, and maybe bring some of that vibe forward to the present and let it inspire me.
To that end, I give you Superfly. A nod to the past, the best parts of ourselves, and a hopeful future.
